Hi all

Earlier this year I completed my Open water cert with a PADI dive center in Koh Tao Thailand , what a beatiful location to learn to dive .Myself & my girlfriend enrolled on an OW course & I just want to say what a life changing , fantastic experience we both had .

I specifically asked the dive shop for an instructor for just myself & my girlfriend as we were both nervous about breathing underwater & thought we may be embarressed with other people around .

The dive center said no problem & dedicated the same instructor for the whole course .We were both very nervous & I must say the whole course took us 6 days as we were not that comfortable with some of the skills at first especially the mask clearing !!! Our instructor was fantastic & his patience was out of this world !

I thought the teaching aids were very proffessional as were the shop & staff !

What a great way to spend a holiday ! Its given us both a new direction in life & we intend to go back to Koh Tao to complete our advanced OW course next year ! We cant wait for it !!

The shop in Koh Tao also gave us some great advice on which regs to buy ! We did both buy TUSA masks off them ! & asre very pleased .

The regs I,m gona get in the UK & its gona be SCUBA pro ... Thats what the instructor had ! But he told us that its a big investment & to go back home & do some research about all the different makes & ask as many divers as possible what to buy !

Well if its good enough for our instructor its good enough for us , WE ARE going to buy Scuba pro regs here in the UK !!!!

THANK YOU PADI , but more inportantly THANK you to our dive instructor & Dive cnter in Koh Tao

Welcome the world of Scuba diving and hope you and your girlfriend have a great time diving.

Congratulations!!

And since you're about to embrace the world of scuba with an open heart and an open wallet be aware that most LDS's are aware that you look to the instructors in gear choices and tend to equip them with gear from the shop as a kind of advertisement.

That is not to say it's bad gear or bad advice. Just ... you know ... use PADI awareness.

Enjoy thoroughly - since I took up diving I've lost all interest in travel goals that doesn't include water.

congrats guys, its nice to see that people spend the time to thank their instructor when they have had a good course.
You can also let Padi know and the instructor might even get a certificate of recognition for a job well done.

welcome to the underwater world

Which dive centre were you at? Bans? (I remember them selling TUSA masks :P did my rescue there and my 3 sisters did their OW/advanced)

Great to read about this. Good of you two as well to recognise and appreciate a job well done - care to share who it was? I should be going there later this year...

Being a nit-picker, I would suggest that you have a look at Apeks regs as well (not that I'm in the trade, but they're pretty damn good too!).

Cheers,

Diving Equipment is suited to each user. Thats why, Instructors also recommend that you boy your own gear.

Don't just buy ScubaPro because the Instructor has it. My Instructor, whom is like my best friend now, told me a few of advantages and disadvantages of the differant equipment. I mean mix and match, Creasi BCD, Mares Regs, TUSA Mask etc etc.

Differant equipment is suited to each diver.

Oh and another hint, get to know your equipment. That equipment may just save your life if you know where the right button is or dump is.

Bobby

Congrats on your open water then. Have fun!
