The PADI eLearning program went live yesterday. We had one student sign up for the program almost immediately. Having reviewed this program extensively, I think it is going to be pretty nice. We have already integrated it into our training process and have the information on our website.

Good idea.... Eventually, everyone will imitate, and go the same route. I think the next one that should be COMPLETELY online is nitrox.

Since the new standards don't require any dives, this makes perfect sense.

I would sign up very quickly for an online nitrox class.

My wife did her Nitrox class online a while back I think it was about 50.00 and all on line. She got a cert card the whole nine yards. The class was basic and to the point. No dvds or books with pretty photos just the facts and rules to dive safley with nitrox.

Do you remember what agency and where she got this from?

It's unfortunate that you have to pay $50-$100 for the piece of plastic that doesn't do much more than demonstrate your knowledge to a dive op (though $50 is getting reasonable). A short quiz would probably be much more effective for a dive op to ensure knowlege of nitrox. But of course the world doesn't work that way, and it's probably safer for the dive op (if not the necessarily the diver) to offload the responsibility for testing knowledge to an agency.

i spent an entire college semester for the nitrox class. of course there were other things taught (penetration, computers, intro to deco) it was one of the best classes i've ever had. learned how to use BSAC, canuck, German tables, VERY informative. don't knock a real classroom.

Online nitrox cant demonstrate competence analysing a tank so to that extent i think it could be mostly online but the practical sessions have to be supervised.

I think it is a "self made" agency. You set the standard, the testing, get the insurance to cover your butt, and issue pretty cards.
