When it comes to any scuba course, but especially something as multi-faceted as the DM program, then the best speed for progression is dictated by the strenghts and weaknesses of the diver themselves.
When starting a DM program, have a clear idea of the 'end result' you want to personally achieve. Visualise how you will be. Take note of the good characteristics that you admire in other, more experienced, divers.
Set your goals based on what you want to achieve. The time it takes to accomplish that will be determined by your progress towards those goals. Do not be tempted, or pressured, into rushing...or accepting less.
Again, when starting a DM program...spend time discussing what you expect to achieve with your instructor. If your expectations do not match his, then seek a second opinion from other instructors.
