I just completed the first day of my confined dives and wanted to know a few things about the second day. (It's a weekend course with PADI)

Today I learned how to clear my mask & snorkel. Also how to deal with a free flowing regulator, switching from regulator to snorkel, how to breethe with out a mask on, no mask swim, alternate air source, & diver tow.

I was wondering if I would have to do a no mask swim tomorrow or a no mask anything, mainly cause I wasn't a huge fan of it!!

Thanks!

I do not know the curriculum to say but it sounds like it would be a good thing to do even in free time. You will like it even less if the need ever comes up in open water. This really is one of those things that becomes easier with doing it more. The confined water portion exists so you can work through these things in a controlled setting.

OH, congratulations on having day 1 behind you!

that is usually up to the instructor (if he wasn't 100% satisfied you might get to do it again).....Surprise :D

CW 4 has a 50' no-mask swim, yes. And hovering w/o kicking or sculling for 30 seconds.

CW 5 is remove & replace scuba unit and weights both underwater and at the surface.

How many no mask swims are there? I already completed one today in the olympic size pool. We're diving in a bit of a fish tank tomorrow, lol. :eyebrow:

Well, that depends.

CW 2 only has no-mask breathing (stationary) for one minute... and your instructor is supposed to be doing the CW sessions in order. Of course, he can do all the CW sessions in one sitting (as we do here)... so maybe you've already done part of CW 4?

Yeah, we did the one minute of stationary breathing without the mask, and then the 15 meter no mask swim. We're moving on from a 6' deep pool to the 12' tomorrow. I am assuming we'll be doing ascents and descents along with deep water entry. I am also assuming that the mask clearing and no mask breathing is done for now. I realize those are very important skills to master, but as for right now I'm wondering if they'll be done at the bottom of the 12' pool in what seems to be most of confined dives 4 and 5?

The important question is, were you comfortable with the no mask stuff? I'm not a fan of no mask diving, as it makes seeing anything rather difficult ;) but I do a fair amount of it even during the AOW course. For this I take my mask off, hopefully without the student seeing me and then I get their attention. From there its up to them to figure out what to do with me:D

The more comfortable you are with this no mask stuff, the easier mask clearing and related skills will be.

Ok, here's the thing...

All the Confined Water skills lists are in your Open Water Diver manual -- usually near the end of each chapter in a yellow box.

At the end of chapters 3 & 5, there are sections on which skills will be covered for the Open Water dives.

UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED, all skills must be completed in a dive before moving on to the skills in the next dive... I'm not sure if you've completed all the skills in Dives 1-3 or not -- but you should have, if you've already done the no-mask swim.

Truthfully, there aren't any skills that require a pool deeper than 6' *unless* you (student) are ~6'6" or taller.
