YMCA - though they didn't have any OW, etc classifications back then.

It makes sense. I started with PADI and started my teaching with them. Over time I came to dislike their standards and the effects of their influence on the industry. That's an oversimplification but...

Well, a few of us have dealt with more than agency. I have cards from 4 agencies in the last 4 years. The standards do not strike me as equal. Some are more comprehensive. I'm with the majority: the best bet is always the quality of instructor regardless of the agency. A poor instructor can't botch any agencies program.

Other BSAC 30 years
British Sub Aqua Club from 1984 to 2000 from novice diver to there Advanced diver, club instructor, advanced instructor.scottyroz:

Then 1987 to present started at rescue diver with PADI and now am a Master Instructor.
Also a few other agency cards and classes in my log book.

Perhaps a good way to evaluate the different dive schools is by the level of supervision the instructors are held to. Ie. If a signifigant accident happens to a student how well reviewed is the incident and if the instructor happens to be found to have been at fault (negliegent) can that instructor continue to instruct.
The aim of the poll wasnt really to see if one agency was better than another, i think we can all agree that it depends heavily on the instructor. I was just curious to see who the majority of people on here started with.
