Especially if they just address it to "Occupant".

My mail carrier will go so far as to deliver letters to my mailbox at the curb, and will even come to the house to deliver boxes or registered mail.

But he would ford the five rivers of Hades and cross the Gobi desert on his knees to deliver a fistful of junk mail.
But the "postal service" of some more "unpredicatable areas" might not..
That the army can get me mail (with random predictability) in a warzone dont mean the postal service is gonna pull the same stunt..

Ask for his pro number and PM it to me, and I will let you know if he is in active status

Yeah, I live in central Paris - the most visited city in the world - but still can't trust a letter to get to me! So unpredictable.

Ok guys, thank you so so much for your advice (and concern...) I think I have my answer; ie "training logbook and the study manual should be all that's needed".

So I think I’ll get in touch and let him know we’ll be bringing all the required materials with us anyway and see what he says. If it’s still a ‘no’ then no matter. Like I said it's just something nice to have - it won't make or break the trip.

We chose the dive centre as both it and the instructor have very positive reviews and recommendations from numerous sources. If I get the opportunity to ask his number then I'll definitely check it out on the PADI Pro Check. But rest assured, we don't go for cowboy outfits where diving is concerned.

Thanks again for all your help. ScubaBoard really is a great source for diving information, and you guys are so kind to get stuck in so quick!

Cheers,

Louise

We're off on holiday in August and have booked a few days diving with a PADI instructor. My boyfriend has done the 2 obligatory adventure dives for his AOW and wanted to do a couple more while we are away. We asked the instructor if we could do this but he said unfortunately no as, due to the remote location of his dive centre, he cannot receive the necessary training pack through the post.
As Jim Lapenta and others have siad, take your logbooks. IF (possibly, a big 'IF') you have, or can obtain, any further documentation regarding the dives already done, then by all means do it. The AOW course requires 5 dives, 2 of which are 'obligatory'. So, your boyfriend may have done 2, but 'a couple' of others won't be quite enough for AOW. If I was the 'remote' instructor, I would want GOOD documentation. That shouldn't be a problem for you, should it?

We have all the documents, so that's not a problem. And, yes, I do realise what's involved in the AOW. He's done the Navigation and Deep dives and just wants to work on other stuff when it fits in. No great rush.

There's been another development though.... We found the guy's PADI number and looked it up. He is an acredited instructor, but he hasn't renewed his PADI membership, which would be why he doesn't want to do the adventure dives. So you were right everybody! He is however, a certified instructor with several other agencies, so I'm guessing he just let this one lapse. It's a bit annoying that we can't get some adventure dives done, but otherwise I'm not too worried.

Or have it come from the alumni department at your college/university looking for money. Those people can find anyone, anywhere!
