Well, I got my new drysuit ordered (Bare XCD2) and am determined not to go the diaper route again (last time I owned a drysuit there were no other options)....

I've read all the related threads here and it seems the best way to go is with the DiveRite or OMS valve. One problem is that I can't find one. LeisurePro is sold out and no local shops carry anything drysuit related (South Florida). Anyone know an online source for either valve?

Next question is a bit more "sensitive", at least it's sure to be more interesting to answer!

Since the condom caths come in sizes, how does one know what size they will require? Try a medium and work (hopefully upward!) from there?

I'll guess I'll hole my suit (ugh) using a pipe with edges ground sharp. Do most folks put the port on the front of the thigh or inner thigh? Any ups or downs to either placement?

Tom

I'm not certain if any are in stock, but you might call my local Tekkie shop, Southern Scuba in Ft. Worth, TX, and speak to Alec Ranck. 817-568-1055.

If he has it, he can get it to you pretty quickly.

Try calling Lloyd Bailey's up in Gainesville(www.lloydbaileyssucba.com). They had several different p-valves in stock, and you would likely get it the next day after they ship it since you're so close. They carry the condom cath's as well, so you get get some of those shipped along with it if you can't find 'em locally.

As for the sizing thing.....well, that reminds me of something one of my instructors told me.. He said when he goes in to buy condom cath's, he tells 'em... "I'll take two of the Magnum size for me........and a small for my friend.." :D

Well, we ain't discussing the size that "doesn't matter" here, are we? In fact, there is tremendous variance in how small one can get from man to man - especially when it's cold. (for some of us just findin' it in the winter time can be a project) You want a good seal, and a secure fit. This is the last place to let pride appear. Medium works for most folks.
Order 'em on line and repackage 'em to say extra huge if you must.
Rick :) :) :)

Proper fit is important. Many manufactures will send a sizing card to help. I recommend the "Wide Band" made by Rochester Medical. (They have a website). Their sheaths are made of clear, soft silicone and have the largest area of adhesive to prevent leaks. A snug fit without wrinkles works best. If there are wrinkles in the condom, try the next smaller size.

Skin should be clean and dry before applying. Trim hair before placing condom. Mentor Corporation makes a skin prep to be used before donning. Wipe the skin with this liquid and allow it to dry. It leaves a very thin coat of plastic film over the skin to prevent irritation.

Good luck.

Tom... use a 357 mag shell as a punch... be sure to back it up on the inside with a piece of wood so you don't end up with an exit wound.

Put the hole half way between knee and crotch and half way between front of thigh and inside of thigh.

www.bestbuymedical.com will send you samples so you can try various sizes, materials and brands.

We use the mentor freedomcaths in latex and order in quantities of 100 at $1.12 each.

They're a tad bulkier than the home brewed looking nuts & bolts stuff, but they work very well. Not only balanced, but adjustable as well.
In a pinch, you can even use it as an exhaust valve when that nasty old Apeks malfos on ya.
:mean:
