I completed my OWD course at RayaDivers Phuket. The OWD-course started by getting to know the equipment. First we went through the scuba diving set and looked into the functionality. The next thing was to go through some theory. We watched PADIs theory film about the basics of diving which lasted for about 45 minutes. At that time we had reached our destination of diving, the Raya Yai island. We dressed the diving gear up and jumped into the water. After everyone was in the water we swam to the shore and started to familiarize ourselves to the strangeness of breathing underwater.
After getting used to breathing from the regulator we started learning skills which are a big part of the OWD-course. The skills also continue throughout the whole course and are repeated many times. The first skill that we learned was to find your regulator if its somewhere else than in your mouth. After some other skills we started to swim deeper. After the first dive we ate lunch, went through some theory and began our second dive. It included also learning underwater skills, like breathing from a broken regulator from the airflow.
The other two days were quite similar, including also tests and homework. We learned new skills and repeated the ones that we already knew. The course culminated to the final exam and a couple of recreational dives.
All in all, the course was truly a wonderful experience. The staff was friendly and professional. The pace of the course was just right and I think that everyone had a pleasant time. I recommend it for anyone who has thought of giving scuba diving a try!
