Hi all. First post. I've done quite a bit of research here but haven't been able to find an answer to this specific question.
I am presently in Honduras now with my girlfriend (and hopefully future wife). We are planning on taking an ow course here together and then will spend a couple more weeks exploring (diving and other activities).
What I'd like to know is this: for ow purposes, which of the three islands or cayos cochinos would you recommend? Basically, I'm looking for the most idyllic romantic choice possible. Bo's on guanaja sounded nice but it appears he caters more to beginners, and so I thought perhaps that coula be saved for later.
A gilligans island experience with beautiful thrilling diving would be ideal. I wanted to take the course at captain Morgans on utila while sleeping at little cay or sandy cay but that sound infeasible. Did I mention I want to marry this girl?
It would be nice to do something low cost as well, but if I have to spend I will. Just hoping someone out there can offer some thoughts.
Thanks for any/all help.
C.

Ps. We don't mind roughing it but skew much more toward camping than crap hotel.
Sorry for any iPhone induced typos.

Your post is a little confusing. You said you wanted to get OW certification but then you indicated that one place seemed to be geared toward beginners. That's what OW is - the very basic beginning of a great hobby.
You can't go wrong with any of the Bay Islands. I personally like Utila a lot because of the wide choices of accomodations and dive shops. Pick one and get started.
Good luck with that lady friend.

.

It may be rare but I gotta agree with Chuck on this one, your looking to get newly certified, as beginner as it gets and yet it bothers you a place caters to beginners and then you may save it for later, Later when you may no longer be a beginner?

Sorry. My mistake. I meant bo's place seems to cater more to NON-beginners, lol.

I agree with Roatan Man. If you want romance combined with OW certification, you can't go wrong with Cayos Cochinos.

I think Roatan has better dive sites, but as someone just getting wet, Cayos Cochinos will curl your toes and is only equipped to handle 24 guests at most, so you definitely will have that Gilligan's Island feel.

We chartered a sailboat to take us there a few years back and although we didn't stay there, we thoroughly explored while we were waiting for fills. It's a neat place.

Why infeasible...u can arrange transpo to and from the island easy enough once you are there and Little Cay is about 10 minutes away from Morgan's. The island rents for about 100 USD a night. Stayed there last year..check out my pictures..private island would be wonderful for a romantic getaway...Most beautiful place I stayed in Utila.

I live and work on Utila and we regularly run dive trips to Cayos Cochinos. I have stayed at Plantation Beach Resort in Cayos which is a small sleepy resort with good rooms and some great views, wonderful snorkeling. They had excellent service when I stayed there and we had a great time.

To learn to dive and do this in a special romantic place choose Cayos Cochinos, you won't go wrong.

I should be trying to steer you our way, but from your posting Cayos sounds much more like what you are looking for. Maybe come by and see us on your way back!
