Lots of things come to mind.
One special time was when we were out at the family lake house.
My youngest son wanted to watch TV. He said, "Mom there is no remote for this TV. I have looked everywhere."
I said, I know Jesse, you have to actually get up and press a button on the TV to turn it on, and change the channels."
Ah! The good old days!
PS Somethings are better now, don't you think ..like remotes!

It's a wonder we ever made it to the ripe old age of 39.
With all the dangerous things we did as kids.

One more thing ..Dee..
Where did you find that?

A friend posted it on Diverlink a few weeks ago.

Ya can split the screen and watch Oprah, Jenny, Jerry and Sally without ever having to get up.

Now if they can just find a way to get the chocolate bon bons to come to you, you would never have to get up at all!

But hey, just move the fridge next to the couch.

Used a beach towel for a parachute...good thing the roof was only 9' from the ground.

Went rattlesnake hunting (armed with sticks).

Made a 'sail' for my bicycle...couldn't see squat while underway...

Played 'army' with BB guns...ouch, and you CAN put your eye out, luckily, we didn't....

Had bottle-rocket fights...problem is, they don't really go where you aim them...

Like, duh...

We used to play cowboys and indians, we didn't like that very much cause we kept gettin beat, so we changed it to indians and Custer! But now you can't even do that.

Boulder, Colorado, 4, 2nd graders were suspended for playing cowboys and aliens, they were using their hands as guns. The school has a zero tolerance for violence.

for the post. Brought back some really great memories from the '60's. Life was really fun then.

we lived in the country - at least then it was - now my parents live within the city limits and haven't changed houses.

Anyway, everyone came to my house because we had 5 acres to run, play , scream , whatever....

We played baseball and if you hit it in the cow pasture it was an automatic out. MOST of the time we found the ball.

We planted a garden , kept the weeds out and prepared everything to go in the freezer. Now Delmonte, or the Green Giant put the stuff in the freezer (section)

We slept on a sand-bar at the river's edge and caught catfish during the summer - before West Nile.

We ate supper (that momma cooked) together every night and even had dessert.

We had one TV that got 3 channels
( maybe 4 on a really good night ) and we all watched the same TV program AND the commercials - when we didn't run to the bathroom trying to be first so we didn't have to wait - we only had one bathroom.

We got up in time for a hot breakfast before riding the school bus to shcool.

Both parents were at PTA and little league ball games even though Daddy left for work at 5:30am.

They didn't have a credit card until after I was married. But Daddy's handshake was a good as any lawyer's contract and a whole lot quicker.

Like the others ... thanks for the post.

Now I live in the city limits of a town of 1500. We can still leave our doors unlocked . I leave the keys in my truck ALL the time. Everyone here knows me and my kids - the kids know if they do something they are not supposed to that I will know about it before they get home.

It's not a prefect little town , but considering some others I'll take my little town any day..

makes life worth living and retelling.

Imagine, riding your bike all over different neighborhoods, just to explore...

Asking some adult if it's okay to get a drink from their faucet...

Falling off a bike and wearing the scrapes and road rash proudly for a week or so...

Running around and catching fireflies...

Watching the storm clouds come closer and closer, and then enjoying the downpour, and then reveling in the fresh after-the-rain smell in the air...

Looking at all of the stars in the heavens, and wondering how many millions of people through the ages have looked at those very same stars...

A couple of years ago, we lost power one night. Instead of TVs and phones and computers, we lit some candles, put a fire in the fireplace, and sat around as a family talking, reading, playing board games, and generally just enjoying ourselves until the late hours of the night (clocks stopped too...THIS was a bonus).

Maybe we all "suffer" from having too much; I'm not proposing going back to the stone-age, but 1960's and 1970' weren't too awful (looking back through these rose-tinted bifocals!!).

Thanks for starting this post...I feel warm and fuzzy:)
