Hey Gold,

Sea Dog Divers are in New Smyrna Beach (1/hr. from Orlando, just south of Daytona).

Sea Dog Divers
111 Flagler Ave,
New Smyrna Beach, FL 32169
(386) 424-1644

I've not been out with them, as I usually do local dives off a friends boat. However, I've heard good things and there are several wrecks and artificial reefs off of Daytona/New Smyrna. Check 'em out.

I'm sure there are some on this board who've been out with Sea Dog and can be more helpful.

gold42,
There are a few cool dives that are not necessarily reef dives, but kind of Florida-unique dives:

Blue Springs, Orange City ~1.25 hours from Orlando - Relatively easy, simple dive lets you see a spring boil (93 Million Gal/day) and a cavern. It is essentially a tube shaped like a foot with the 'ankle at 70' where natural light ends max depth around 100' - technically becomes a cave at that point and you're not supposed to proceed without appropriate cert. Very pretty but not much marine life. You may see a gator on shore if you're lucky. See thread:

Venice/Casperson Beaches, Venice - Shark tooth diving. Decent local dive op is Florida West Scuba shop, located on Tamiami trail as you cross the bridge into Venice. Abundant small shark teeth and some bottom dwelling wildlife; if you're lucky you may find a megalodon fossil tooth (large prehistoric shark, teeth run from 1" - 6" with some extremes at 8"). Lots of other fossils as well if you know what you are looking at. Very interesting and relaxing dive, particularly if you haven't done it before. Kind of rewarding to come home with souveniers. Friendly and courteous regulars. See this thread:
