Just wondering if anyone dove the Orange Tug or the Betty Rose? I was going to dive it saturday but there was alot of boats on both of them. I dive the east coast and the keys all the time. Alot of people don't say good things about the gulf diveing. But I fish the gulf all the time and when you get to the blue water line the water is real nice. Plus it is right in my back yard.Any help would be nice. seeeeeeeeee ya.

Lots of dive sites off John Pass or Egmont Key. The winter is (for me) the best time to dive the west coast. The weather is more predictable, water clearer and there are less people out. In the summer the alge and gumbo show up plus the storms. The middle grounds are a good place to go but a little bit of a ride.

The "Orange" is a 100' tug built around 1900 and was originally steam powered. She was later converted to diesel and used extensively for work around Tampa and the Gulf. When regulations changed regarding the use of single screw tugs she was put up for sale, but no takers, so her engine was pulled and she was sunk as an artificial reef. (I used to work with her last engineer.)

It's been 2 or 3 years since I dove her, but she's an interesting dive and home to some really big Jewfish. (We're talking floating VW's here!)

Not all spots but most. Contact Chad Carney, he's on ScubaBoard, and he can answer your questions. Google a search for middle grounds and look for the website/videos from Fishkilla productions (sp) or NOAA.
