This past weekend I just switched over from a headband mount to a (home made) GoPole, as I lost some excellent footage in Cabo from being out of frame. I made the pole 18", but found myself holding almost exclusively very close to the camera. I had made it that length thinking I could get into crevices, but found it was a bit unwieldy, especially snapping it off to my BC. I don't ever plan an taking selfies, so maybe I made it a bit too long. Shortening it will cost me about $0.79 for a new end cap. Lengthening it after cutting it, well, that won't work :D.

What are people finding is an optimum length? The commercial extension ones are 14' - 24" and 14' - 40".

It doesn't really matter what size pole you use, as it will always be too long and/or too short for any dive you're doing.

:D

I use this one - from SP Gadgets - which goes from 11" to 36"
