I'm looking to buy a BC and have my eye on the Cressi-Sub Aquapro 5R.

I've done about 25 dives with rental gear and am looking to buy some of my own.

I go on approx two recreational dive trips a year, primarily in tropical waters.

I know many folks here prefer other styles, but I'm happy with jacket style for the time being.

I would also like something with weight-integration.

Price isn't my primary decision maker, but I'm also not looking to spend more than I have to.

Given that, the Aquapro 5R seems like a good match on paper, but I am curious what folks who have experienced it first hand think.

If you liked it, what did you like about it? If you didn't, what were its shortcomings?

Given my criteria, are there other BCs you'd recommend more? If so, why?

Thanks in advance to anyone who takes a moment to weigh in. Your help is much appreciated.

I am also looking at the SeaQuest Pro QD and the Aeris Atmos LX.

Any thoughts on either of those?

Or which of the three strikes you as the best?

Thanks again.

I don't know about the AquaPro 5R itself but I own a Cressi 7mm wetsuit and have used Cressi BC's as rentals around the world. I think Cressi makes a good product and at least the items I used worked well.

There are 26 reviews of the 5R at LP, it may make sense to review those.......

Cressi-Sub Aquapro 5R Buoyancy Compensator

Overall it looks good.......I did see some negative related comments related to the weight....a heavy BC is less fun to travel with......

There are many options for BC's and many opinions........:D

Look for fit, comfort and ability to trim out well.........

Hope this helps.......M

I would look at the Oceanic CRUZ BC ($459). A little more money but I feel that it is a better BC. Nicer BC pockets, Trim Weight Pockets allow better weight distribution and the Weight Integration is a better design. Here is their description of the BC
Rugged design and high lift capacity for local diving plus packs flat for travel
• Durable, fadeless 1600 Cordura® construction
• Two trim weight pockets and Oceanic's QLR Integrated Weight System that can accommodate
up to 30 lbs.
• Versatile power inflation/deflation with right shoulder and lower pull‐dump control
• Easy to use large main zippered pockets
• Strategically placed stainless steel grommets for your accessories
• Dual‐adjust sternum strap for more adjustment range

I know that you wanted a Jacket Style but there are a lot of benefits to a Back-Inflation (more comfortable at the surface & more horizontal and better control underwater). Here is a Back-Inflation option - Oceanic ISLANDER 2 ($479). Ideal Travel BCD
• Low profile rear inflation bladder for minimum drag
• Includes 2 carabiner clips with 16 attachment points for easy, one‐handed accessory
attachment.
• Streamlined, integrated Weight System accommodates up to 14 lbs.
• Includes dual 5 lbs. cylinder band weight pouches for improved in‐water positioning
• Integrated instrument retractor mount (retractor not included) and Spinner Knife
mounting grommets on both the left or right pockets
• Roomy zippered pockets
• Adjustable‐position sternum strap
