OK, we have a new month and need a new critter. For this month I'd like to see an endemic invertebrate. Any suggestions?

i.e.:

Hoppers Hermit Crab
Fishers Star
Thomas Urchin
Black Spotted Cucumber
Hawaiian Bobtail Squid

The black foot opihi, or Cellana exarata, or "opihi makaiauli" is endemic, and quite commonly gathered by locals.

giant opihi (Cellana talcosa) would also be a good choice, being that it is so large (and tasty)

then of course there is the yellow-foot (Cellana sandwicensis)

All of these are endemic, but my favorite endemic invert would be the endemic cowry, Cypraea ganulata.

Sorry for not getting back to this...too much real life going on right now.

Hmmm. Opihi? what could you report about them? About Cypraea ganulata?

We will postpone this until I come back from my trip and it will be the August Critter of the month...hope I get in to dive and get some pictures!

Aloha and sorry again!

Lisa
