Hello,

I'm studying for my first Open Water certification, and just wondering if there's a good site that can quiz me on the material. I've read 4 of the 5 chapters, and have 19 pages of notes. There's a lot to keep track of.

Thanks in advance.

Not as far as I know but the tests really aren't that difficult in my experience. So long as you can correctly answer the knowledge reviews in the books without checking back in the section, you are good to go.

IIRC I messed one question up in mine and it was due to poor mental arithmetic.

Goodness. Don't overthink the questions. I had five students last week each have 10/10 on the four quizzes and 50/50 on the "final" exam. The questions are designed to make you think.

Well, I'm just concerned about how much of a stickler the teacher might be (I've met her, but haven't had my class with her yet.) I'm really excited about getting certified, and want to be prepared.

There is no being a "stickler" about the tests. They are set, everybody does the same quizzes and exam. They are multiple choice.

My advice, do not over think the questions or the options for the answers. They are straight forward. They exist to ensure you read the material and understood it. If you did, the questions should not be an issue. The only time I've seen students have issues is when they start the "yeah, but what if..." games.

As to the pool stuff, being a "stickler" is a good thing, but nothing online can really help you there.

You will review the Knowledge Reviews with her before you do each quiz and the exam. Nothing on the quizzes or exams is anything you haven't already seen and reviewed.

Good job for being dilligent in your studies!

Question #1 : You should hold your breath as your are ascending from your dive.

1. True
2. False

Question #2 : You should dive with which container on your back?

1. Propane bottle
2. Can of hairspray
3. Certified scuba cylinder

Don't over think the question. LOL The questions as @Hawkwood said are simply to make you think, not to "trick" you into failing.

When you go over the knowledge reviews with your instructor, make sure you understand every answer. If you found the right words in the chapter but don't really get what they mean, ask for help. The instructor wants you to get it right on the exam; the last thing the instructor wants is to have a student fail the exam, have to reteach the content, and then give the second, backup exam. While you are doing the knowledge reviews, the instructor is paying attention to you and gauging your preparedness. I never handed out a final exam until I was convinced everyone in the class was in great shape and was going to get a really good score.

Luckily, I found a short YouTube video to explain dive tables, so I'm feeling good about that.

What I find interesting is that she said the PADI OW book has been "dumbed down" a bit, and she's seen a lot more people trying to get certified as a result. Considering how much info I've read through, I can barely imagine how that was possible.

I got my HAM radio cert many years ago for a cross-country road trip (haven't used it since.) One nice change was that you didn't have to learn Morse code for the basic level.... Though I'd love to learn it some day. I've taken German, Russian, and Spanish... Might as well learn another language (that I'll hardly use, lol)

Ah...if you had mentioned it was the tables you were looking for "help" with, you'd have gotten a number of places to go to.
