If she could figure out how to use Orbitz she could fly down to S Cal any time! However, in order to use Orbitz she'd have to log off SB, DecoStop, Dir Explorer, 5thDX,.......

When I first learned to dive (in the good old days when backplates WERE backplates, wings were something on airplanes or birds and REAL regulators had two hoses) it was drummed into us that each buddy did a head-to-toe check of the other's gear (including making sure your air was on). In my (unnamed agency) Course last summer (of which this thread is a celebration), it was mentioned in passing that you do an equipment check. But everywhere I've been diving, including some classes with (unnamed agencies [plural]), the equipment/buddy check has been mostly honored in the breach.
Is this common?
Now back to the regulary schedule programming giving TSandM WAY too many "atta girls" for her addiction.

Far too common. I dove with a diver a little while ago who when asked what a safety stop was for, couldn't give me an answer. SERIOUSLY. I asked the diver if they knew the depth of the safety stop. First answer was 30ft. I said, well WHY do we stop at all, and the diver replied, "Cause that's what my instructor said".
Pre-dive check is taking a back seat as apparently instructors these days are SERIOUSLY not getting the basic message across.

a simple caveat, like a "some" or even "many" in front of instructors would go a long way to making this statement less offensive. There are definitely inadequate instructors out there, but the pre-dive check as well as deep stops/safety stops, buddy & gas management etc. etc are all part of my instruction.
Netdoc, what is the origin of this deep stop theory? I am very curious as to where it came from especially since I am planning to implement it from now on.
