I've waited practically my whole 37 years to start diving, and wouldn't you know it, a day before I start my OW class, I get a cold. It's really not fair.

Luckily, the dive shop was gracious enough to reschedule for next weekend. I guess I'll study my book some more.....

Be patient, it will be worthwhile. The last thing you want to do is dive (let alone start training) with any congestion going on.

Also study ScubaBoard and learn what they left out of the book.

I start my vacation today, so I'll be living on this board for the entire week!

I'm getting pretty stuffed up. I don't even want to think about what it would be like if I tried to practice clearing my mask right now....:yuck:

Kunk35: Clearing your mask would be least of your problems. Reverse block would be right up there though ... unless it's gotten into your chest, _then_ things would go sideways.

Let the cold clear (I'm sitting here with a 4 day weekend, a cold, and no chance to dive now, so I can commiserate somewhat). The ocean will be there in another week or two ;)

As you said ... you have waited a long time ... so another week is NP ... I got a head cold on a trip to Cancun and it did not clear up all week ... major bummer all I could do was sit by the pool and soak in the sun :-) but I really missed out on some good diving ... but you do not want to dive with a cold you will learn that in your class. Studying the book and watching the video is a good way to pass the time however.

It could be a lot worse. You could be a certified diver and wake up on the first day on your dive trip to Cayman and discover you have a cold. ;)

I can pretty much always be worse :)

MY GREATEST FEAR!

Can you imagine! I've only gone on one actual dive trip and all was well- and it would have KILLED me to have gotten a cold last minute!

I have been on several dive trips/live aboards and have never seen anyone get sick, other than a little seasick and we all know it's calm about 5 feet down so diving is the cure:)

....:beerchug:

I did have a cold once in Cozumel and almost blew my eardrum out with a reverse block, but fortunately my ear cleared and I only suffered vertigo at depth and missed 3 days of diving. There is an OTC zinc-type drug you can take before you get on the germy plane which is supposed to help.
