One Day to dive San Diego in late October, please help!

Hey there scubaboard folks,


We will be visiting family in San Diego in late October and will be able to steal away for a day to do some dives. Any recommendations for a site where we can see some good wildlife and might be worth doing two dives? I have never been diving in southern California.

You could go dive the Yukon.

Thanks for the reccomendations. I think we will dive wetsuits on this trip. Is 7mm standard down there?

Certainly nothing less than a 7mm. There are some shore sites, but if you're here on the weekend they'll be mobbed. The boats are a better way to go but you'll be at the mercy of wherever they're scheduled to dive that day.

7M wetsuit might be a little chilly. I would also were a hooded vest if you have one.

Certainly the signature shore dive is LaJolla Cove. Divebums - La Jolla Cove

Some other options - as mentioned if you plan to shore dive in LaJolla, get there really early. Parking availability near the Cove is very limited. Divebums - A San Diego Dive Website

The San Diego boats are at the bottom of this listing: All have trip calendars on their websites. California Dive Boats : The Official Page This time of year I believe the bigger boats are doing the weeklong Great White Shark dives so your options may be more limited.
