Is it OK to use one bottom timer for two buddies or it's a strong requirement that every diver has to have underwater timing device? Both buddies are fresh certified.

Thanks.

Get your own.

What if you've done 3 dives that day and your buddy's doing his first? Your NDL would be different so you cannot rely on just one.

What Doc said.

While diving this weekend with a buddy, we both had different depths and times,
even though we stayed within 10' of one another. Best to keep track of your own bottom time and depth!

I fully agree each person should have their own. But these answers sound like they are thinking more about computers. If the OP is really talking about a bottom timer only, it knows nothing of your NDL or depth. Unlike a computer or a pressure gauge, if you splashed with your buddy their timer should always read the same as theirs...

That is true, m'Lady Damsel Fish. But, as if Doc stated, the buddies became separated and did not execute a proper lost buddy procedure, then it could result in some very serious consequences.

In my opinion, no reasonable and prudent diver should ever commence a dive without a compete set of gauges.

like I said, I fully agree each should have one. Just not for some of the reasons being given.

Computer aside, my buddy ended up in the next higher group going by tables.
We were on the same dive, but two totally different profiles!
