Anyone recall a series called "Adventures in Paradise" starring Gardener McKay?

Jimmy Buffet refers to the series in one of his songs

Whatever happened happened to Gardner? I heard he disappeared away to some tropical island like in his series

Sure do. McKay's charater roamed the South Pacific in search of adventure. Not really a diving show but there was some story lines that did involve diving. Sort of a Route 66 of the sea. I was based on a novelist's stories but I can not recall his name.

Wasn't the author Michner?

Gardner McKay died in 2001 in Honolulu. Adventures in Paradise was in reruns on UHF channels in the 1970's after first running in the years, 1959 -1962. Also, the show was created by Michener. One of the guest characters on the show was Captain Arthur Butcher, played by good old Alan Hale Jr., later the Skipper on Gilligan's Island.

What did Gardner do in his life after Adventurers in Paradise?

Being originally a midwest flatlander, Adventures in Paradise had a lot to do with my eventual love of sailing, diving, and anything else on or in big water. I wouldn't mind seeing some of those dimple days of TV returning ... not holding my breath.
