I'd like to hear that I am not the only woman diver that has had trouble finding a wetsuit. I mean, please, I can't be the largest woman out there diving. I'm 5'6" and about 30 pounds overweight. I got very frustrated when looking to purchase a wetsuit. How could I be off the chart? I've seen much larger women diving. Scuba apparrel people take note - PLEASE! Luckily someone told me about a neat little shop in Huntington Beach that makes custom wetsuits at very reasonable prices. In fact, a lot less than the 'on the rack' items I was looking at. I pick it up Thursday. Wish me luck.

Different companies make different cuts, so there may be one out there that fits...but I have yet to find one that fits. :) And I'm 5'1" and not overweight but have muscular legs and find that if I can manage to pull the darn thing over my legs, it's too big in the upper body and vice versa.

I've come to the conclusion that rack wetsuits are made for that small percentage of perfectly people (not just women). The rest of us have to either "make do" or go custom, which as you pointed out, is not so bad since they're cheaper than the national brand name types.

I'd venture to guess you're in plenty of good company! :)

I'm sure you'll love getting into your custom wetsuit: nothing beats perfect fit.

I hear what your saying. I'm taking my OW Cert. in September in MN and the lakes are getting down right chilly since we've had an unseasonably cool summer.

A wetsuit is a definite in my mind. I've been looking and pricing but all the women's sizes are just to small. I'll probably end up purchasing a men's wetsuit. Thankfully I'm tall so the men's suits fit just fine.

Although I wouldn't mind hearing about the company that is making your wetsuit. Could you email me their contact info and whether or not they have a website?

Thx. Pam

I'm another woman with an "unusual" body type. 5"4" tall with a very short torso, long legs and wide hips (my family comes from French-German peasant stock) and weigh about 150 lbs. I ended up getting a custom made 7mm jumpsuit and 7mm french cut jacket from LiquidFit in order to do my checkouts since the suits in the shop were useless as far as fitting properly went.

However, since then I found an Excel Super-Stretch Titanium 3 mm jumpsuit that fit me off the rack (go figure). I use that for "warm water" diving and the Liquid Fit suit for quarry diving here in Ohio.

I strongly recommend custom made wetsuits. As my first scuba instructor said: "If they don't fit, they won't keep you warm."

Good luck. I hope you're happy with your new wetsuit.

As a fellow "BBD" (Big Beautiful Diver)--Call Carolyn at LiquidFit and get a custom!! I have 3 of her suits and my husband just got a custom 3ml--and they are GREAT. She even has a super stretch that, in my opinion, out performs the henderson hyperstretch. Her prices are competitive and often less than off the rack suits.

Carolyn--what would we do without you?!?!?!?!

I have to agree about Carolyn and her products!! I have 3 of hers, hubby has 2, son has 2 and daughter 1. Can't beat her products or service.

My partner and I are also super happy Liquidfit customers. We are both on the heavier side of the seasaw and got some perfectly fitting 3mm wetsuits from Carolyn. Since we are moving to the lighter side of life (dieting), it's great that the first alterations are free! Not to mention that the colors and quality of her suits far surpass anything we found (custom or otherwise).

P.S.- I know I sound like an advertizement, but really i'm just a super thrilled with our suits.

Hmmm...I'm going to have to ask about alterations after the fact. Because with all this diving I'll be a new me ;) Or is it the old me? Mini Me? It's really great to hear all these wonderful responses to LiquidFit. Where exactly are they? You all aren't that close to each other.

I think that Liguidfit aka Carolyn Tomes is in south Florida. We live in Charlotte, NC and have never met Carolyn face to face, but have certainly made a friend over the phone. She is great to work with for the measurements and has a 1-800 number on the website.
