Alright, I've narrowed it down. My search for a BC that will allow me to use both one tank (most of the time) and twins (once in a while) and be a piece of equipment that will be able to keep up with me as I get more tech. in my diving has come down to a choice between the OMS IQ with a 45# wing or the Dive Rite Transpac II with the RecWing.

I don't want to regret my decision down the road so any input you have is greatly appreciated. Which one would you buy?

I own both (except I have the Trek wing on my DR) and will tell you that they are about the same. The DR comes with some extra moveable D rings on the belt that comes in handy as well as it comes standard with a SS buckle. The only drawback to my DR (which is why i dive my OMS more) is that the trek wing mounts only one way to the harness as the holes will not allow you to place the wing in different positions on the harness if you are using a BP. However, looking at pics, the RECwing allows you to do this so by you narrowing that much down, you have saved yourself some hassle. My LDS would not tkae the wing back in exchange for the REc wing so I have ceased to purchase from them anymore:( What is nice about the Dr wings is that you can use the gusset controls to attach them to the harness which will keep the wing from taco-ing around your tank which happens quite a bit on my OMS.
All in all, I like both, just don't get the trek wing! POS imo... I dive in very warm waters (Guam) and think the OMS is good for me. Just would be nice if the added a few D rings on the belt and it came with a SS buckle as well. These can all be purchased on the side, just a big hassle. I think you will be happy with either rig. Just commit and get used to it. That has been one of my biggest problems. I am an equipment junky and have had 5 BCs in 4 months. Got really used to a seaquest Black Diamond which is awesome, but sold it like an idiot and don't feel like shelling out another $600 for one:(

I currently dive a Halcyon BP & Wings but had about 50 dives in a transpac before switching. if I didn't find the Backplate so comfortable I'd still be in the transpac - as a recreational BC it is excellent. Did two dives in a OMS pac but found the transpac to be a better piece of kit. i can;t say enough about Diverite customer service either - great bunch of folks.

I have the diverite Venture wing and harness and absolutely love it.

I am thinking though, if you are doing mostly singles at this point, I would buy a singles wing, and then buy a bigger wing for doubles when you get there, I think you would be alot happier.

I had a Zeagle before this with 45# of lift, and you get what they call the taco effect, not the end of the world, but there is no comparison to having the right size wing for the job.

Just my 2 cents, FWIW.

I have both the transpac II and the oms iq pack.

Both are good.

I prefer and use the oms iq pack because it has a pocket to insert a backplate into an, to me, the oms is a little more comfortable.

With mine, it's very easy to switch between doubles and a single tank adapter.

With the dive rite, you have to use the cam bands through the webbing for a single tank and there's not much adjustment to get the tank low enough to keep the reg 1st stage from hitting my head. I did put a piece of 1" webbing between the bands to squeeze them together to solve this problem and it works pretty well.

Oh...also...

I like dive rite wings because of the gusset control. I use the venture wing (30lbs) for travel and the trek wing (40lbs) most of the time. They are interchangeable between the harnesses.

Glad to see that I was not the only one with the DR problem. I will try the webbing to see if that helps!
