I'm thinking about buying an OMS IQ Pack. All of the pictures that I can find on the internet show it with the weight pockets in the front. Does anyone know if it's possible to put the pockets back over your hips like on a regular harness? I'm just asking because that is a deciding factor.

I just bought one and i did not see a way to move your weight pockets further back than your hips. See, the 2" strap is sewn into the back pack and you can't push the weight pockets any further. In first pool test this week using a 45lb wing when surfacing my body was pushed forward by the wing, not a lot but enough to make you want to balance it just in case you run into a problem. I am now considering using a tank weight to get my balance right.

In the pool dive I used 2 OMS weight pockets without quick release and it wasnt easy to reach out open the velcro cover and take the weights out. Don't get me wrong, i did take them out but it took a 20-30 seconds to figure it out. Now I have reversed the pockets so they are facing down so they kind of should work as quick release. I'll try them in the pool next week.

I am also interested in opinions on what other options are there with the IQ pack to get proper balance.

Thanks for letting me know. I thought it might be sewn there.

I was going to use it with a 2 lb. backplate and a 3 lb. STA. That would put some weight back there.

Maybe I'll just stick with the harness for now.

I put 4 cheap weight pockets on the tank straps, fastened in place next to the backplate. Works fine for me. No quick release, no upside down orientation. 1,200 dives, and never had any inclination to dump weights. If I'm wearing 5mil, I put small weights in pockets at hips.
