Hi,
Do you think that an OMS BCD would be good for a beginner that is doing only open water dive?

Which one? They make them from life raft size to the tacops horse collar.

Don't buy it for 3 reasons:
  • That's almost certainly more lift than you need. (Don't know any details about your exposure suit, tank, and necessary ballast, though.)
  • The design of the wing is probably more useful for diving doubles.
  • Retraction bands are unnecessary.

Take a look at Oxycheq wings or the complete rigs sold by Deep Sea Supply.

Since you're diving cold water with a significant amount of lead, I'd recommend getting a stainless steel backplate.

Just my opinion...
 
The bungee thing IMO, is a personal thing. They can always be removed however.

But fact is, that is a doubles wing. It is really kind of foolish to use any doubles wing for singles.

I too am a fan of Oxycheq. I dive singles and have used a number of wings. I really like the Mach V's.
