Hi All.
Tropical Storm Omar is now over us. We are just on the cusp of the "eye" of the storm and are awaiting the worst to come.
They have closed the main road of the sea in town. Some of the waterfront resorts have sustained dock damage. I know for sure that Den Laman has lost their dock, and that the main dock in town (not pier, dock) is also gone. We also spoke to our dive operator Wannadive who tells us that they have sustained damage, but their dock is still there. He said that Buddy Dive, Divi and others have either lost or have sustained damage. These are very easily correctable.
Winds are now up to 50 mph with higher gusts....GRI is doing well, no problems yet as we are about a block off the water, but we will keep an eye on our property and guests through the night.
We also spoke with some people who took the boats to the East coast for protection, and ended up bringing them back over the harbor on the west coast, as the whole island is experiencing unbelieveable swells of over 10 feet and rolling waves.
One of my friends took pictures and video before they closed the main road, waiting to get them, as soon as I have them I will post a link.
History shows that Bonaire's last major hurricane was in 1877, with damage from Lenny in 1999 and Ivan in 2004....
Let's all say a prayer....
