It is on my list too for my bride. And thanks Jack, your review was great. T-8000 will work great with the Sealife SL960D strobe I already have.

I just got my Oly 8000, replacing my 1030 which got torpedoed Thank god for warranties. Can't wait to use it!!!
I got the Ikelite housing as the Oly was as said, discontinued. But Ikelite is rated to
200' much more than the Oly.
Wife and I are going to PR next week, SCUBA, freediving, tequila sunrises

I'll post the shots we took and do a report as well of its use.

A guy from another site had said to air out the camera after a day in the water. Open batt hatch, remove batt+card and leave open to dry out as condensation/moisture may build up inside. Hmmmmmmm???

I just bought an Oly 8000 and PT-045 housing for my daughter's first foray into underwater photography. I have a YS-90dx strobe that I'll give her to go with it.

Question, what settings are optimal for use of this strobe connected with fiber optic cable?

(My daughter is a 20 yr old college junior, taking a semester off to do a marine biology coral research project in Mexico - just north of Belieze. Yep, I'm a bit jealous.)

Question for the OP if he happens to see this: In the picture of that angel fish, did you use photoshop or any other software to remove the color cast that may have been present? I have the Olympus SW 1030 and while I love it, it doesn't filter the blues and greens out by itself and I have to manually do so afterward. I was wondering if that was the case for the new versions of the camera or not.

I don't believe I did any editing to that particular picture because I was able to get up very close to it before it scattered away (was snorkeling so no bubbles) and the amount of sun shining was plentiful

I did have to adust some of my photos (especially of schools of fish off in the distance that seemed to have a blue-ish tint covering everything) for which I used a free application called "irfanview"

You simply open the pictures with that application, then select tools>>auto adjust colors and it does a great job of adjusting/enhancing it with that simple command

I have the T-8000 and love it! Only thing, it has made me want to get the waterproof housing to take the camera deeper than 33 feet.....

Not to derail, but it appears that housing blocks the flash, so does that mean that you have to buy a flash as well; and if so, what is the best flash as far as performance/price??

The housing doesn't block the flash, there is a window for it. Good luck finding an Oly Housing, as far as I know I had the last few in the US.

I have several lighting packages available. Probably the ones with the Remora flash or Sea & Sea YS 27DX are what I would recommend. You can mix and match whatever tray and arms and strobes you like, just let me know if you don't see the combo you like.


Ikelite does have a nice T-8000 housing available, if there's interest I'll bring in a few.
