I will buy an Olympus C7070 very soon but I read in a magazine that I could use the Pt-20 (housing for the C5060).

So what's the difference between the "old" Pt-020 and the "new" Pt-027 (housing for the C7070) ?

Do I lose some functionality with the Pt-020 or is it just a marketing plan from Olympus ?

Thanks in advance.

Do you intend to use the 7070 in supermacro mode? I have read on this board that the 7070 will not allow the flash to fire if the camera is in supermacro mode. If you are going to use a strobe capable of firing off wired TTL then no problem but if you intend to use the internal flash or an optically controlled strobe you may want to reconsider the 7070. Supermacro mode is very important to me and this strobe "problem" would cause me not to buy it. I understand the 8080 does not have this problem.

Here is what I found on another forum.I don't know if it works !!

A lot of people use fiber optics to fire their strobes, but when they use the super macro function in the 5050, 5060, 7070 and the 8080 the camera's strobe does not fire, so here is how to make it fire. First turn the focus to AF, next change the camera flash setting to slave, then set to say 2, now make sure your in manual mode (M) and change the focus to supermacro, take a shot and the strobe will fire!

Hi Manneke

Apparently the 7070 has a slightly larger hand grip (5mm) than the 5060 and there are also some changes to the size of the mode dial and the position of the control dial .The PT 020 also has some design flaws so hopefully they will have been sorted out on the PT 027 .

Try www.digitaldiver.net and do a search on the 7070 - I'm sure I saw some more on this issue there .

Hope this helps

This works fine on the 5050 ( I have one) and from what I understand it works on the 5060 and the 8080 BUT does not on the 7070. An earlier post indicated that they had spoken with Oly and they confirmed the flash could not be made to fire when in supermacro. Granted, this is hearsay information but just though you would like to know and if it's important to you, research the issue and determine if it is true or not. If it's true, I would not even consider a 7070 for this reason because supermacro is important to me, it may not be to you.

doesn't work...just tried it.. in any case.. realise the to use super macro underwater is going to be tough as well. I'd rather use an add-on lens.

Hi Tim

Pleeeze check this for me - apparently the 7070 must be in M , A or S mode for the slave to work.I'm considering upgrading and would like to know for sure .I have just checked my 5060 and slave doesn't work in P mode.

Hi again

The reason I asked was because of this link .

I saw the link. Apparently it works for 5060 and 8080, but i think oly tweaked the 7070 so that it does not fire. I tried it again with the instructions from that thread but it still does not work (i resetted the 7070 before following the steps). In anycase, i think it wil be a little tough to get to 3inches of a critter anyway so I am happy to buy the 7070 and stack UCL-165s on it.
