After I made my own tray I found it to be too heavy underwater so I used two sections of ABS plastic to make it just slightly positive buoyant.
I decided on positive buoyancy versus negative so that the entire rig would float attached by a leash to my BCD while I put my fins on after a shore entry. It allows you to have both your hands free. No chance of the rig sinking and banging into rocks, coral etc. It also allows me to operate the entire rig single handedly underwater.
It took a few trys to get the length of the pipe right. The end caps are glued on.
I'm sure the reverse works to make it negative buoyant by adding weight inside the PVC or ABS.
