I found a pretty good deal on a C-7070 and PT-027 housing combo, so I bit the bullet and bought it...very cool camera so far. Any recommendations on a strobe/arm/tray? I never did have a strobe for my C740, so I have no clue as to what to get for the new one.

Well, you could try the Fisheye tray and handle with Inon D2000 strobe. You can email Yuzo Kanda at the following website to help you on how to set it up.

Personally, I like the Inon strobes as they are smaller and easier to transport. Inon arms and ULCS arms are also compatible. The Fisheye tray is light and pretty user friendly.

Hey Wolverine, did you figure out if you could fire the 'Slave' flash in SuperMacro mode?

Cheers.

Never did. Decided to go with stacked UCL165s instead. Figure with my current skills, I wouldn't be able to get close enought to use the supermacro anyway. I am hoping that upgrade of the firmware will solve the problem but it doesn't bother me at the moment.

Because the Inon D2000 can only be fired with a FO cable (which will work with your current combo), it will not be compatible with a sync cord fired system should you ever upgrade. I personally would go with the new Inon Z220F .

I buy all of my gear from Ryan at Reef Photo & Video . He has very competitive pricing and is VERY knowledgeable about u/w digital.

HTH,
Dave

I plan on using a sync cord from the beginning. The Oly housing has the connector already.

In that case, you should consider either the Inon Z220F or the Ikelites. They are respectable strobes in their own right. However, note that Ikelite TTL wil only work with the Ikelite housing. So you would probably have to shoot in Manual mode.

I find it strange that Olympus had this as a constant for the C5050,5060 and 8080 and changed it for the C7070.

I presume you have already tried this to try and get the internal flash to fire in SMacro mode:
  • 'M' shooting mode
  • OK > Mode Menu > Camera > Flash Mode > Flash > Slave
  • Focus mode set to SuperMacro
  • Flash mode set to :lightning SLOW (by pressing the :lightning button on the left of the camera)

Tell me about it. I tried it and it didn't go off. Have asked Olympus Tech Support here in HK and they have tried everything and they couldn't get it to fire. I figured some smart alec decided to change the firmware such that it won't fire. Oh well...
