When the resort opens the public parking will be near the hotel, which will cut the walk nearly in half of what we had for the past two years. It will be about the same distance as we had from the old hotel in the original parking lot.

Where do you get your swell data from? I used WetSand SwellWatch 3D - Surf Report and Forecast for a night dive at Vets on the 16th. Before I left the house it was showing 1ft swells, and when we got there it was a lot more than 1ft. I tried twice but couldn't get through.

I'm not writing off Marinenland, I just think I need to improve my beach entry/exit.
There is a live camera for Redondo Beach. Wetsand is wrong about 50% of the time.
For Marineland, I usually check http://cdip.ucsd.edu/recent/model_images/spc.png

WetSand gives you swell predictions....if you want surf (the stuff you have to get through) info, try Pacific Waverider. I've found this to be pretty decent....usually they over estimate if anything (the site is meant for surfing....for which they want big surf....wishful thinking on their part sometimes!).

The weather has been pretty crappy for a while now....when it settles back down and you want to go out for a dive at Vet's, post up here and I'm sure someone will be able to get out with you!

Thanks for all the useful info.

I just might have to post next time I go to Vets, if not for my sake then my buddys. He made it through the surf both times only to have to turn back because of me that night at Vets.

Hi,
I never dove OML but I am very curious about it. Have you guys been there recently? How are the conditions? Anybody down for a dive this saturday?

Thanks

Marineland is closed to the public right now due to construction. Phil mentioned that it should open back up when the resort opens (in June), so until then, we won't be diving there. When it opens back up, I'm sure someone will be more than happy to go out.

Diving at Marineland is fantastic, but you need to be aware of the conditions. If it's rough, it's not a good idea to go out. If the surf is high, it's not a good idea to go out. If you can hit it on high tide with a fairly minimal exchange, that will be a good bet. But if it looks bad, pick a back-up site....it will be good again one day!

Mr Carcharodon, actually the trail from Pt. Vicente is new, and does indeed open up at Long Point for coastal fisherman access. The trail trek from the new parking lot wont be too much longer than the traditional walk was out to "The Point". The trail out to Long Point is in place, and divers will use the same, in place today, intended opening in the guard rail at "The Point". I've been to it, walked through it, and there's a picture of it @ diver.net

The facilities here may become warm and fuzzy, but the entries and exits here will always be challenging, and the real entertainment is watching the brave newbies dive when we know they shouldn't, be careful out there ;~)

Tide o Rama! Data Retrieval

Claudette posted up a great thread on when to dive where. It is stickied in this forum. I'm pretty sure it is mandatory reading for new Socal divers.
