Out of curiosity, had he dropped his weights?

I never took the time to notice if he had but I doubt it. In retrospect I should have seen if he had any air left and inflated his BCD when we got to him. Honestly though both my son and I are new divers - this was my 18th dive and my son's 16th and I recently started diving with an inner-tube dive flag so I used that to get him back to shore.
