Depends on what you mean. Today was completely flat on most areas here in Okinawa.

For the most part, we have a northerly wind pattern in winter here which drives waves from the north in the winter. When the waves and wind are up, the southern dive sites like Channel Crevices are nice. Other spots like Kin Red and other are calm though the vis is dependent on the recent rains.

In the summer, we tend to have a southerly wind pattern. On those days, Sunabe Seawall, Maeda Point, and a myriad of other sites are good.

Weather patterns on the specific days determine where we can get in the water.

For those who live here, you can almost always get in the water somewhere if you are willing to drive an hour or so...

I do live here, only problem is, I don't have a car and am limited to a small portion of the island generally.

The storm that just passed through this weekend will be out of the area by Tuesday and diving should be great by Wednesday. Where on Okinawa do you live? We are based in the Sunabe area and run dives all over including the Keramas- we also have pick-up service from Kadena- and Foster bases and local areas for those w/o cars. You can also go on GoatDawgDivers • Index page a local board and find some buddies with cars that can help you out for dives.

We just did a class with a bunch of guys from Foster this weekend- the bad weather kept us diving in Kin but we were getting wet. We have boats running daily to the Keramas and surrounding islands and we have a few seats open for Saturdays dives if you are interested. (Also have a boat going during the week depending on your schedule) We are also looking at doing night dive on Wednesday with some guys from Foster so give me a call or shoot an email and you can come along. Check out the web page for military specials on classes and boat dives.
