Well, I just got wet again, and I tried the DIR "around the neck" long hose as primary technique. Very comfy! :thumb: More freedom of movement, and the reg wasn't pulling at my teeth like it used to with a short hose, or even with a bungied down long hose as primary. I noticed no sore jaw and teeth like I often did before, especially with longer dives.

I do still dive a standard BC, even if it is back inflate, and only air, so I still have some differences from DIR practices!

Insert scary music here...

Glad you like the long hose. But the long hose isn't really a DIR practise. Its more of an diving an overhead environment carried over to open water practise. But good to hear its working out for you. Did you go to a bungeed back up as well?

The DIR (probably not ONLY DIR) technique was to extend long hose under right arm and around neck, as illustrated on the GUE site. Interested folks can find the site and they explain the pros and cons.

My former method was to bungee the long hose partially and breathe it. Then the short hose was also routed under my right arm and attached to a surgical tubing necklace. This bungeed configuration and the short hose as primary both left the regulator pulling slightly on my teeth, which wasn't noticeable until I had been diving a lot in one day or on a long dive.

Now that you've partially joined the club and found out first hand that this was a valuable recommendation, you may want to read the book and expand your horizons further.

Is bungying the octo around your neck.
Dumping the console for wrist mounted.
And placing the SPG where you can see it by just glancing down.
It's a scary thought. :) Just kidding.
I don't call it DIR I call it common sence.
Not everything DIR does makes sence to me.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

Me too.

I got a BP and wing set up about a month ago, and just bought a pair of Jets!

Can only be a matter of time before I get the long hose too!

Fred,
Like what? Can you be specific?
THX!

Adder,

Great, you've discovered the benefits of the long hose and the bungied backup (I hope), now, get ready to learn more, order the DIR-F book off the GUE website (Gets in your hot lil hands FAST) and take a gander at some more very cool stuff. The book is pretty inexpensive and packs alot of information as well as some great pix.

Cheers...
