Ogasawara- spearfishing

Anybody know what the rules and regs are on spearfishing in the Ogaswara's? Ive been searching the web and can't find any info.

I guess it is a big no-no on scuba like in Izu/Tokyo. Not sure about snorkeling...

Thanks for your reply. Funny how I can't find anything on the net. Not even a photo of someone spearfishing. Makes me think its not allowed.

...some funny stories of folks spearfishing in Okinawa.

Down there, spearing while free diving is allowed, while on scuba is prohibited.

I've heard that some folks go spearing on scuba with a take-apart spear, stash the spear and fish underwater when done, take off their scuba gear, and then go back and pick it up on a free dive.

Pretty risky considering they can confiscate all the equipment involved in the incident including your car...
