OK can anyone help us with some ideas for a trip we are going to take in May! Looking for a place thats not a typical dive resort. something very low key and with out the heavy tourst feel most resorts have. We have been looking at little corn island and it looks just like our thing but not sure if the diving is very good or not. many conflicting reports from this place. So anyone with some ideas would love to hear it!!!!!!! the only thing we have to have is a clean place to sleep and good place to dive................

Guess it depends on how remote and/or undeveloped you want. In the Caribbean, Dominica, Saba, Statia and St. Vincent come to mind.

Thanks for the reply Ronrosa Well very remote is ok.....we are both experienced divers. diving out of pangas is ok. Just something out of the ordinary with maybe a cold beer and good food......

Dominica is a delightful country with very friendly population. Fort Young is a good resort, actually built within the walls of an old fort. Food is good and diving very good. This is definitely off the beaten path.

The big problem with Caribbean destinations that are off the beaten path is that they're hard to get to. (duh!)

Real diving?

Not much of a path: Little Corn, Half Moon Keys, Cisne (Swan), Los Roques.

A little easier to get to: Speyside, Tobago; Cayos Cochinos or Barbaretta (Bay Islands)

Slightly easier to get to: Utila or Guanaja (Bay Islands), The out-islands of the Bahamas

Fall out of the plane, easy to get to: Bonaire, Roatan

Take the taxi: Grand Bahama, Cayman, etc.

well dont want to do Cuba but thanks for the idea DiverBuoy ... i think we live close to eachother im in foothill ranch.. Ill take a peek at the other ideas now and see whats up :)

You didn't specify that it had to be a tropical destination..... soooo... have you considered Alaska? :D It certainly meets the criteria you listed:

- Off the beaten path
- Low key and easy to avoid the heavily touristed feel
- Not a typical dive resort
- Clean sleeping places (the Yurts in Humpy Cove in Resurrection Bay are quite comfortable and definitely clean)
- Fantastic diving

ok yes we want a place with warm water! ... as much as we would love alaska and it is on our list of places to go to we are thinking warm water. Our local diving here is on the cool side 50s-60s so some tropical water sounds good!
