Same here - though the bungee is pulling apart from the little flap of strap that loops around the plastic clip PLUS the spring in the clip is rusting. Same on my wife's

When it breaks - which I assume will be this year, I'll switch to my silicone snorkel keeper (the one with one rectangle and one circle end)

Octo Holder for 2nd Stage

Ideally, alternate air source (octopus) second stages are where you reach for them and are not dragging along the bottom. The simple, rugged, and reliable Dive Rite Octopus Holder keeps regulator second stages securely in place when not needed; yet releases them quickly in response to a firm tug.

  • The elastic shock band that encircles the second stage mouthpiece does a great job of holding on to the second stage when needed, yet releasing quickly when tugged.
  • The Dive Rite Octopus Retainer fits a wider variety of second stage mouthpieces than the plastic-dip-molded type. You don't have to fight to get a mouthpiece inside a Dive Rite octopus retainer -- only to see it mysteriously fall out later.
  • The low-profile, sliding-bolt snap helps keep overall "dangle" to a minimum. It enables you to move your extra second stage quickly from one accessory D-ring to another (something many divers do when suiting up or removing equipment). It also makes the octopus holder perfect for taming wild decompression or stage regulators.

I use this one.

I use the Trident green holder shaped like a mouthpiece. I have been using this for over 20 years. I think I use a cable tie instead of the SS ring. It keeps the mouthpiece clean especially for shore dives. Near impossible for me to get the Octo mouthpiece back in during a dive if it pulls out though.

and also the Dive Rite clip with small bungie. This is good and is easily adjustable for different locations.

I use the silicone snorkel keeper also. If they snap they are super cheap to replace, and if snagged can be cut or ripped away easy. I was asking my LDS for a octo keeper, which he had in stock, yet he said just try this..gave me the snorkel keeper for free. I have used hose clips as well, and certain ones work well. I have also used the bell and moulded mouth piece holders like the trident ones linked and like them the least. I haven't tried the necklace though and they do seem like a good solution keeping the octo easily reachable.

+1 for the $1.95 rubber thing...

I once had one break on a student's BCD during setup and had no replacement. I happened to have a small loop of bungee cord--essentially a big rubber band--and improvised one by looping it over the D-Ring and pulling it back through itself. It left a small loop. I thought it worked better than any commercial product I had ever seen.

My main BC (Pro QD) has an "octo pocket" which I like to use because I can tuck the hose in a bit and keep it from dangling around behind me. On my Zeagle Express tech, I just double the hose near the second stage and put it through a D-ring on my shoulder webbing.

plain old basic rubber octo holders. Probably a Trident product, I keep 2 attached to my regular BCs. 1 for use 1 for when that one breaks.
