Now I'm reading that we might be entertaining some teenagers and their mothers?!? What's up with that?

Rick

They are not my teenagers... not my parents... and it is not my responsibility to act like an 'adult'! I WON'T GROW UP!!!

I'm 17 and so is the dive buddy that might be coming with me. My parents are worried that even though I have a dive buddy, if we both had problems, no on there knows who I am or knows my family, so none of them would think to contact them to tell them I'm dead or anything. As such, either another dive buddy from my church will be coming with us, or possibly my parents would come with me or come out for a little while on saturday. I'm not sure. I'm not exactly a kid, I'm just not a legal adult. You aren't going to be entertaining me or having to watch out for me, I'm quite self sufficient :) My mother also will not need to be entertained, there is only a 1/3 chance she'd be there at all if if she is there she might not be there for more than an hour or two. I believe alot of the people on here have mothers or are mothers, so they probably know that mothers are not that evil anyways :)

Hey JahJah,
Don't be getting all exercised now... I have nothing against you (or your Mom). I have a Mom myself and she worries about me regardless of what I do (I haven't gotten the nerve up to tell her I cave dive yet).

I have no problem with you and your friend diving with us... Hell, I'll even be your dive buddy if you want. I am more concerned about later on, back at the campground. A lot of us are going to be drinking, being silly and otherwise acting up in ways that may be inappropriate for a 17 year old to be around.

Just speaking for myself, I'm going to have my girlfriend there with me and knowing myself as I do, I'm liable to get all drunk, get back in my camper and make enough noise to entertain the entire campground. Knowing that there is a 17 year old (and his Mom) sitting outside could throw a monkey wrench in the whole thing...

Maybe you, your friend(s) and your Mom could set up camp a little ways away from the main camp and if things get a little too risque, you could retire to your own little campground. I've been on a lot of campouts where people have done that and it has worked out perfectly for everyone involved. Just my $.02

I cant think of one of these Ginnie get togethers when we havent had a bunch of "little-ones" in the pre-teen, even infant/kindergarten age range. There have been occassions with some teens in high school and college also there and it has been no trouble so far. Generally the day seems pretty family friendly for diving, grilling etc and the nights are a little more raucous, but not to the extent that a teen would not have seen before at some kind of family get together - which is kind of what this usually ends up being. Obviously we wont be handing out booze to the kids or teens, but i think things are just fine this way. On a slightly different tack i think we try to persuade ourselves that the kids and teens dont know what is going at all or that they must be completely protected, but between what's on tv/movies, in the news and even in the school yard not much of what we can say or do (and would do so under normal adult company) they wouldnt have seen/heard before. There will be alcohol regardless and a few loud/obnoxious/humourous/dirty things said i can guarantee, its just how these things go. Whether anyone gets paralytic and does something really dumb is something else altogether, that isnt where we go with this party in general, but its generally good adult times.

Actually, one of the conditions of me diving at all, ever, was that I would never consider cave diving, ever. :) Fine by me for now, I'm quite the claustrophobe.

And as far as the drinking and stuff goes, I work with people that frequently come in late becuase they were out drinking the night before :) I'm decently responsible, so what I'l do is just videotape it all so I can blackmail you all later ;)

I don't think my parents would be staying with me, I really don't want that. I want a weekend away from my parents. My dad just worries about me diving. I'm hoping a dive buddy from church will come out with me or something. I could even drive back late friday night. All I care about is a day of darn fun diving on saturday! :)

If we step over that ugly line of being un-kid (or teen) friendly
we offend quite a large number of attendees
MANY of whom make the event (and ScubaBoard as a whole) VERY worthwhile!

I'm just wondering if Andy sings any church hymn's ...
and where I can find a Ned Flander's halloweenie mask?

JUST kidding!!

So, are we in for the 1 gallon or 5 gallon bucket of KY?
Imean, for the midnight greased piggies relay race?

Kidding ..... you tell me!
NUDGE!NUDGE!WINK!WINK!SAYNOMORE!!!

As a parent of a PRE TEEN (Ug, is she really that old??) who has brought said pre teen (aka Hermit Crab)to numerous ScubaBoard camping trips (I think this is number 5 or 6), I have never worried about what happens later on in the evening. Hermit Crab and the other kids generally would rather hang around their peers than hang out with the OLD adults.
As for rambuncious fun in the tent afterwards...uh, perhaps you could move your tent as so the rest of us can get some sleep?;). Generally, it has not been a "problem" the adults getting loud and rowdy. We generally sit around the fire telling stories..and lap dancing.. with grass skirts....and stack more wood on the fire....and melt liquor bottles..and eat food...and, uh, create memories. :)
