My "nonsense" re your post #4 was answered by the OP in post #5. My "more nonsense" was because your post #6 totally misses the point...since the point was octo donate not primary donate. Your reading comprehension needs work.Nonplussed raises and doubles it...
Yes, read the same article and had the same conclusion Never was aware that there was a debate, but it makes sense. This is timely, as I just read an article on the DAN Facebook site advocating for left side. The arguments they presented made sense, if you plan to donate your octo. They did not discuss the fact that all of their points fall flat with primary donate. Even in the octo donate situation, your buddy will need to relearn the location, which might not be a big deal.
I also remember reading in another post a while back that left side is standard in, I believe, Japan.

Ditto this!Well before I dived my current configuration, I dived a right sided primary and an Air 2. I also just let buddies. know that I would be donating the primary. This is not a difficult problem.
... only to find it held in place with a necklacesnatch the regulator from your mouth.
The gal I know who has hers on the left, explained it to me, using the words of her instructor. It made sence to me. I specify in my OP, this thread is not about primary donate, over octo; but rather just left or right side. The arguments they presented made sense, if you plan to donate your octo. They did not discuss the fact that all of their points fall flat with primary donate. E
I did a cursory internet search, where I found a number of images, octo on right, and on left sides. None of the images I looked at were flipped. Yes, I did see primary and octo on different sides.I'm not sure it "matters", but the typical set up is to the right, worldwide, and that is where most recreational level divers will expect it to be if they need it. I suspects your limited research is photos on the internet? Keep in mind that those phots may depict custom setups. Also, make sure you don't fall victim to image flipping. Make sure the reg and octo are on opposite sides if you're looking at them that way. I see what I think are snorkels and regs and stuff on the "wrong side" in photos occasionally, and then realize the image is flipped or reversed.....but I'm a little slow sometimes. LOL!
But this thread has nothing to do with primary donate; only to do with placement of octo. So, if you have to dive with a buddy, let them know what you would donate. I dive a 40" primary under my right arm and a short secondary necklaced. I simply tell them that I would donate my primary reg,
