Thought so.Try a search on here or YD (its been done many times). Real world OOAs people go for what they were trained. They aren't thinking rationally and acting entirely on instinct.
As much as I appreciate the candor and openness of the discussions on Scubaboard, I'm afraid they can really only be considered anecdotal at best. You mentioned "statistics", which to me means only one thing - a published study of some kind. So unless it's been published on Scubaboard, I'm afraid that your invitation to "search on here" won't yield much in the way of statistically valid data or conclusions.Try a search on here or YD (its been done many times). Reef hound, your right they should both be on the same page.. in a perfect world. I guess the LDS could say you wear YOUR rig the way I tell you.. But I would think he'd have a hard time getting a DM to teach his classes.
The DM that advocated I have both on the same side said the LDS owner who is and/or acts like he is certied for everything short of space travel forgets that most of us are recreational divers.

The shop owner sets store policy, not the DM. If the owner believes the octo belongs on the left and has set up all his rentals and new regs this way, he needs to tell his employees that is how he wants it taught. I don't think he'd have a hard time finding DMs, most shops around here create their own DMs from their own students.
This has to be something the DM has encountered every single time he works for the shop. Either he isn't all that active with the shop or he would have already known why you had it routed that way. I agree with the DM's position but if he cannot follow shop philosophy he needs to find a more compatible shop.
I had heard this is why Apeks made their new second stages reconfigurable from either side. I must be daft, but I can't picture this with the inflator, octo and pressure gauge all on the left.BSAC we always have on the left.
