I have been diving it for about 2 years now and have not had the first problem. Breaths easy, no adjustments and small. The only thing that I have noticed is that if I am not horizontal I get alot of mask leak. I guess it comes from a small reg and the exhaust ports being in close and lifting the mask skirt. Other than that I really like it. Hope this helps.

I don't have the Zeta but I do own an Oceanic Delta 3 w/PX2 piston 1st stage. The Delta 3 is a step down from the Zeta (as far as the marketing literature is concerned) but is probably every bit as good.

I absolutely love the Delta 3. It breathes very smooth, even at depth. The second stage is neutrally bouyant so it is very comfortable. It is also quite small so it doesn't produce any noticeable drag.

Rodale's constantly gives the Delta 3 a Tester's Choice award. Other publications that have reviewed regulators also seem to love the Delta 3.

You may want to consider the price difference before buying the more expensive Zeta. I'm not sure what the extra money buys you.

Dgangi,

I too have been using a delta 3 for a long time now (coming up to a couple of years) and think it is a great regulator operationally wise.

The only complaint I have is that secong stage it is so "plasticy" - I have to be very careful packing it away sometimes wonder if it is just going to shatter one day with the knocks it picks up on a boat - What has you experience been?

I have been using the Zeta (primary) and a Delta3 (secondary) with a CDX 1st stage for about a year now, I like the size and the ease of breathing of the zeta mostly, very little jaw fatique. As for the Delta3 i have nothing bad to say about it. has not given me any problem so far.

My Zeta needed adjustment when I first got it. It was way too eager to breathe. It would free flow when I angled my head down! After adjustment I found it to be an excellent reg... easy to breathe and I love the small size.

I recently bought an Apeks ATX200. The Apeks is a large improvement in breathing over the Zeta. I had a chance to compare them side by side on a dive, and the Zeta breathes very wet compared to the Apeks. Given the price of the Zeta, I would suggest any Apeks. I thought the size of the Apeks would bother me, but you don't notice it.

Apeks aside I like the Oceanic line of regs.

cmdasia -- I also thought my Oceanic Delta 3 was a little "plasticky" when I bought it. But then I looked at most of the newer regs on the market and they are all built that way. In fact, after doing some comparisons, I thought the Oceanics were built extremely well. Nice smooth contours. Even seams. Craftsmanship is top notch. In fact many of the written reviews echo this sentiment. So far I haven't had any trouble with my reg and it's taken some abuse.

In terms of Oceanics breathing "wet", my experience is to the contrary. Both my Delta 3 and Gamma 2 breathe dry -- extremely dry. In fact, I actually had a complaint that the Delta 3 breathed *too* dry as my mouth felt depraved of moisture after a few minutes of sucking on the reg. Even in an inverted position, I don't get a lot of water like others complain about with different regs.

I believe Diver Magazine (www.divernet.com) reviewed the Gamma 2 (2 steps below the Zeta, 1 step below the Delta 3) just a few months ago and raved about it. It was easier to breathe than most anything else in its price range (about the same as the Apeks ATX50) and was given overall high marks.

Diver Magazine also had a 2000 review of the Delta 3 was extremely positive. But then I also saw a review of the Zeta in the same rag last year and they weren't all that positive about it.

So maybe the Zeta isn't a step up in performance from the Delta 3 after all. Not all "expensive" regs are better than their cheper cousins. Quite often a manufacturer will make their most elite product line "different" than their mainstream lines to make the elite product stand out (I think the differentiator of the Zeta is its miniscule size). But this can introduce design flaws and other problems not found in the company's more mainstream products. Maybe the attempt to shrink down the Zeta kills its performance when compared to the "cheaper" Delta 3.

Regardless, I love the Delta 3 and think you should seriously consider it. Just about everybody I know that owns an Oceanic owns a Delta 3. And they've had nothing but good press for years. That has to mean something.

Thx...Doug
