Be careful when you lube the o-ring. Don't pull it through your fingers too hard or you might stretch it a bit.

We finally got the clear dome cover off. We didnt realze that the dome was just a dome. We thought the dome had a housing underneath it. To get to the battery you dont have to remove the plastic housing .......just the dome which is on top of the ring. We were trying to make it harder than it was. Just use a very small awl (like a large embrodiery needle) and gently pry and pop the dome off. ....where the clear dome meets the black housing.

We got it out a few minutes after I posted. The problem was my husband was thinking the black ring was part of the clear dome . Is is not. He was trying to ge the get the black ring off. Actually the clear dome is independent. We finally took a fine embrodiery needle and got the edge of the clear dome and it just popped off.
