Oceanic / Aeris / Pelagic (and I hope Hollis will be the same) are "A-Number 1" in my book. Highest quality, excellent design, complete control of the production process, responsive to the consumer, quick to admit a problem, always bending over backward to make good on any problem. One of the few brands that I'll buy without trying or reviews, you can believe their descriptions.

I guess you could say they are the recall kings in the fact that they will issue a recall for anything no matter how minor. I don't see how that is bad? I would much rather deal with a company that is honest and upfront about issues than one that tries to dance around them. I would never hesitate to recommend Oceanic/Aeris.

I also agree their attention to detail and safety are top notch. It sounds more like a case in which a retailer questions/slanders the quality of any brand s/he does not offer. This happens more often than you might expect. Ask about another brand they don't carry and see how they beat up on that one.

With all the positive comments about Oceanic, both from divers and dealers I will sure take another look at the brand. This board is the real deal. The dealer I talked about is, as some pointed out, very negative on brands they do not have in stock. There are two sides to every story, and I just learned the other side from the most recent posts.

I do agree that a quick disclosure of any problem is far better than hiding it.

And don't you forget it! :no

JK, ;)

Remember with anything, the sales person may not be looking for your best intrest, just the sale. Do your own research and make educated buys.

Oceanic's Mantra is "Innovation First" this explains their supposedly above average recalls. Because they are always staying ahead of the curve the variables are enormous. I don't think I have ever heard of an Oceanic/ Aeris product that caused death or serious injury and that is BECAUSE of all the recalls. You can't beat the quality of either the gear or service of the Oceanic family (Oceanic, Aeris, and now Hollis as well)

When I brought my Scubapro reg in for servicing my LDS looked at the Pro plus II attached and commented how it is probably the most unreliable computer you can buy. My response was: "That’s why I bought it because I don’t dive that much". Of course Faber tanks and Zeagle ranger BC's are junk as he does not sell them. Would not hesitate to buy any of their products.

Not surprising. Some dealers are like that and are not confined to the scuba industry. Go into a car dealership and ask if a competitors model is better. It's one of the reason's I'm also becoming a YMCA Instructor as opposed to one of the agencies that push towards being affiliated with a particular shop or "dive center" (personally dive center is too yuppie and pretentious sounding for me, I like going to a shop). YMCA standards require me to recommend gear based on what is best for the STUDENT, not the shop. I like that. I can take my student, ask what type of diving they wish to do, what they see for themselves in the future, what their budget is, where they live (why recommend a shop 50 miles away if one is within 10 and has what they need, want, and can afford)and based on my experience, research, and knowledge tell them what I would recommend for them without the constraint of being forced to recommend a particular brand. I'm even willing to go with them or anybody for that matter to give an objective view on their choices, (unless it's a spare air:shakehead:) and be sure their needs are met.

Each manufacturer has recalls, i work for a dive shop that sells oceanic, sherwood, aqualung and many others. My boss told me that this wont be the first i see and that i will see it from all of the manufacturers that we deal with. With that said a recall from any manufacturer would not really stop me from buying a product.
