OK, I think I have narrowed my search to this computer. Which should I buy, the Pro Plus II or the Datamax Pro Plus II? I really cannot see the difference, is one a newer model then the other? Anyone care to share good and/or bad about my choice?

I am pretty sure they are one and the same.

Oceanic seems to have dropped the Datamax label.

I had an older Datamax Pro Plus which eventually succumbed to old age. I really liked it. I have a wrist computer as well, but liked the idea of one that was gas integrated and attached to a hose. Some folks prefer the wrist ones that are wireless. I shipped it to Oceanic for a replacement Data Plus II.

I have a Pro Plus 2 and the New Atom 2.0
For the extra bucks I think the Atom is great. Smaller package, wireless (no problems so far) and works good.

I still have the Pro Plus 2 as my backup.

"smaller" is the issue. My gage reader mask is a must! I cannot find a wrist computer with as large of a display as as my old Aeris has or I would have stayed hoseless also. Anyone that could direct me to a hoseless with a large display with graphs the info would be much welcome

I am a relatively new diver who was shopping last summer for my first set of gear. I was seduced by the wrist computers fellow divers wore on my liveaboard week. When I started shopping for one, my LDS salesman noticed that I had to put on my reading glasses to view the wrist computer face. He asked me if I had to use reading glasses all the time, and I said yes. He then showed me the Oceanic Pro Pluss II. WOW!!! A read out that I could clearly view without my reading specs. That sold me.

I've used it on thirty dives and love it. No confusion after reading the manual, and I'm NOT a computer geek, in fact I am computer challenged. But after reading the manual and asking the salesman a few questions, I spent a week with it on a dive trip and loved it!

I was tempted to go 'hoseless', but I am still going to need 3 hoses + 1 for my drysuit, so I wouldn't really be hoseless anyway, just 4/5 hose :)
Atom was too small for my eyes as well.

I also have the Pro + 2 and love it! It's so nice to be able to see my console with or without contacts and it's easy to use at depth....

The Atom does come with a magnifing protective cover when diving.

Esox,

the Pro Plus II is a very good and rugged dive computer. It comes from a work horse of a dive computer, the old Data Max Pro Plus. I know of a Pro Plus that is still crunching the numbers after 7 years of diving and hundreds of dives.

Affectionately referred to as "The Brick", the Pro Plus II is very easy to read and is simple in operation.

All of this, coupled with Oceanic's superb service group, makes it an excellent choice.

Guess you can tell I'm a bit biased on the side of the Pro Plus / II, can'y ya ???

We dive with Pro Plus all the time. Nitrox - Air, deep, shallow. 200+ dives so far on them. Not a problem. Good reliable computer that can take a licking.
