I have never owned a Sherwood or Oceanic regulator so I can't really comment on them, but I do own a ScubaPro MK25 with S600 second stage. The S600 breathes like a dream underwater. I haven't noticed a bit of difference in its performance whether I am diving at 30 FSW or 125 FSW. I would defintely recommend this regulator to anyone. ScubaPro has been around for a long time and the quality in their regulators shows.

Here is me chilling with my MK25/S600 on the USS Oriskany:

I'm in exactly the same postion myself at the moment. Having done some deeper dives lately, (30m) i'm going off my first reg set (TUSA). I am considering one of the 2 regs mentioned here.

How do they perform in cold water? I dive UK so in the winter it can be really cold, i would also like to have the option of lake diving in the winter, so water temps could be as low as 5 degrees C.

I have read some comments about the scubapro mk25/s600 freeflowing, is this a common problem? How does the EOS perform under these conditions?

Any help much apprecaited, need to get regs soon!! The SP set is on offer in simpy suba for £449 for complete package, the EOS package would be around £480 so i'm in a dilema!

Thanks in advance folks!

The Mk25 is a piston style 1rst stage and is known for being problematic with really cold water. If you want to go ScubaPro I would look into the Mk17 first stage. The EOS is Diaphragm first stage and is environmentally sealed, making it a good candidate for cold water diving.

Cold Water setups to look into: ScubaPro Mk17/G250v, Aqualung Legend, Apeks XtX series <----built in the UK

I just did my drysuit cert in 0.6°C (33°F) with the EOS, so it should be up for the job :) It was quite easy getting it to freeflow but adjusting it made it stop. Easy to breathe, good mouthpiece. But I have only rental gear to compare it with though.

divegearuk.co.uk might be able to get you a better deal than simplyscuba. I know I did..

Cheers for the info. Still torn between the EOS and now the MK17/G250v. Not much difference in price, so still not sure. The G250v looks like a big mouthpiece, i've a small gob! :)

Although i see the A700 is coming soon, and depsite popular opinion i think it looks great. Hefty price tag though, but hey i can do my part to save the credit crunch!

Oh, decisions, decisions!!

got a pmsg about this and thought it would be smart to post it here in case any of you other guys had the same questions..

user:
Hello, what was a temperature of the air around? Which gas was in the tank? How long and how deeply you was in the water? It wasn't the free-flow, right this? What you think about the swivel connector? Thank you, friend.

I'm not sure about the air temperature, but I think it was around -10C. We turned on the air when we were in the water and didn't use the regs for breathing above the surface.. I had 2x 30 minute dives with a max depth on both dives at around 12 meters. it did freeflow if you set the air flow too high. minor adjustments and it didn't. I haven't made any thoughts about the swivel connector, as stated earlier I have only rental gear to compare with, but the swivel might be good for head movements..

Man what a decision to have to make. I think that whichever you decide you will be more than happy. i've used the s600 before and love the way it breathes. i'd also consider getting the EOS as i heard it too breathes well. your sure to do well with whatever mnakes you most comfortable.

It would be great if i could try them out but there are no decent dive shops in NI, so try before you buy is out for me. :( But, that's where you guys come in! Still leaning toward the MK17/G250, just not sure about the reg size, prefer the look of the oceanic and the swivel thing.

I'm at a loss!! Anyway, i'll not be buying anything till i sell mu TUSA regs anyway - any takers?
