Does anyone know of recent problems with the new oceanic Atom computer? I just inquired about the Atom computer at my local dive shop and he told me he's had several of them returned. he didn't want to tell me why.

I bought an atom and got about ten dives out of it and it froze. The dive shop sent it back to Oceanic and I should get a new one next week. The problem is a screw up on the case design that allows water to leak in at depth. Oceanic had to make new molds for the cases to correct the problem. Other than this problem I love the atom as dive computer and i cant wait to get it back.

Hi All,

Any update or new development regarding the sent-back of the Atom dive comm? Dont get such kinda feedbacks around this region, the sole distributor for Oceanic was just trying to sell me one this week.

Cheers

Hi All,

Went thru the relevant sites on the forum....seem like it is an inherent problem with the Atom to flood at depth. Read somewhere in this forum that a new batch manufactured 09/04 has rid the issue. Can anyone verify that?

Thanks

Cheers

Not too sure how far the diver went. But ATOM's spec stated 150M max. Sorry i can define the depth for u.

I got my second one back and dove with it the day after. I was 65 ft down and 15 min into my dive when it wigged out on me. I took it back to the dive shop the next day and oceanic had a new one for me the next day. I havent dove with this third console yet. Seems to me that there is still a problem with the case since the battery cover doesnt sit completeley down against the case. I took the battery cover off my second atom and noticed the latches used to hold it down were only in three places not evenly spaced. Like on a clock they are at the 3, 6, 9 position but not at the 12 o'clock position. Even my new one doesnt seem to sit all the way down. I love this computer but I am hoping the bugs are worked out so I can go back to enjoying my dives.

I have had mine since May and have about 35 dives on it. Belize for a week, FL wrecks and Cozumel.
Fairly deep dives 150 on a few in Cozumel, 130 Spiegel grove and 140 blue hole. I have had on problem, maybe they flood below 160 but I love mine.

Great Nitrox computer, Cool too!!!

Besides the freezing and possible flooding problems of this watch sized computer, what do you guys think of it? Worth upgrading from an older Oceanic to this? Also is it DECO capable?

I love this computer on dives. Ive been using a suunto cobra in betwen the times Ive had problems with the atom and I still love the features on it better than the cobra. its easy to read, small enough not to notice it is even on your wrist and just doesnt get in my way. I would let us ginny pigs work the bugs out then go and buy one for yourself, if you like the hoseless idea.

P.s. what is the older one computer that you have?
