I have a CDX5 first stage and use a GT3 as my primary and an Alpha 8 as my octo. I've used the octo for the entirety of a couple dives just to know how it breathes, and I found little difference between the two. I'd say it would be fine as a warm water rec reg.

I'd get one, I have 2 GT3/CDX5 setups with Alpha 8 octos, and the GT3 and Alpha are the same performance really. The only advantage being you have the adjuster for the GT3. I'd even feel totally comfortable using it in ice water too, it's the same poppet and internals as the GT3 aside from the lack of adjuster. My LDS had a couple of these setups for rentals and everyone really liked them. $150 is a screaming deal.

If I hadn't already bought a pair of deco regs for my upcoming deco procedures class, I'd be buying two of these right now.

Thanks for the respones. I think I'll probably get one. Too bad the Canadian dollar just shot down 14 cents which makes it not quite so good or a deal anymore!

This is the reg that our lds uses for rentals, and we just used them on our OW checkout dives. I dont have much to compare them to but we found them pretty easy to breath on. They tended to free flow a little on the surface but it was an easy fix.
