I got the email also from Oceanic.....Make sure you register all your gear there and they will email you recalls on your equipment.

Well, sort of...

If you had an annual service on your FDX10 or CDX5 first stage between 5/1/06 and 10/22/07, and your serial number does not fall into the range identified by Oceanic, you will not receive a notification of the recall. At least I didn't.

My regulator is registered on the Oceanic website, and I updated the service dates. I did not receive notification from Oceanic about the recall.

My notice came when the HP seat failed on a trip.

My LDS said they have been advised to contact their customers who had their FDX10 or CDX5 1st stage serviced between 5/1/06 and 10/22/07, and have them bring their regulators in for a retrofit. That leads me to believe Oceanic has no mechanism to notify customers who's regulators are affected because they had an annual service in the identified time period.

Yeah. I bought one.

I havent had to service mine yet, but you are right, there is no specific notice for those SERVICED in that range as there is no reporting to oceanic, just your service card.

I bought mine from Leisure Pro and that's where the email came from notifying me that the reg needed to be looked at.

so do you have to send it back to LP for service since its not covered under Ocaeanics warranty and service? I always wondered how that would work.

That pretty much depends upon how well the shop or technician the reg is taken to is paying attention. They aren't required to perform the service if the reg was purchased from an un-authorized source. For a retailer that's a very sticky subject. Many stop just short of grabbing you by the cuff and pitching you out of the store like something out of a comedy movie. I've heard storeis where shop owners have rudely and abruptly asked people to leave. I'm sure glad that is a VERY RARE story, but unfortunately it happens. These shops generally mistake "online" for "unauthorized" and lump even the online dealers into this, warranty or not.

And again... that's a generalization. Not a rule. I know from my time working for the manufacturers that there are MANY, MANY great shops out there who have thier stuff together.

Other shops will do the service but charge you for it just as they would any other piece of gear out of warranty. Often reasonable as they are not going to get their parts returned for free if they can't prove the warranty service themselves.

Other shops either don't pay attention, or go ahead and take their chances in the name of service.
