For those who haven't heart about it yet, tomorrow in US theathers will be a great movie.
Quite an evolution from French producers since Cousteau in 1958 for Le Monde du silence!
It is J. Perrin's 3rd movie, after Microcosmos (insects life) and "le peuple migrateur" (birds). Both were great, but this one promises a totally different level. The story about how (long) they took to make the movie is also quite amazing.
Lots of divers in there, and they certainly had an lifetime experience to share.

It was out in January in Europe, but is distributed by Disney in the US, and they get it now (3 months maybe to translate the 7minutes of dialog, and cut a few PG18 sequence-hopefully not :eyebrow:)

Seen an interview with Celine Cousteau, Jacques Cousteau's grand daughter, this morning on Canada AM. Can't wait, the little I've seen so far looks incredible.
When asked what her grand father would think of the state of the Oceans today, she replied, he'd be very sad, because his prediction are all coming true.

I saw the movie yesterday. My imprssion was that it was well phtographed, although there was not much unique in it. A couple scenes that I did really like with walrus & great white sharks. I truly believe they missed a great opportunity to send a message about the trouble our oceans are in. There were a few Dineyesque moments - some fish in nets that shouldn't be, some radar looking thing that showed polution going into the oceans but not anywhere near enough about the impact of those.

It seemed to me every time they started to make a point- they stopped and went on to something else. It was more of a "isn't it beautiful and amazing, so wouldn't it be sad if it went away" message. We are WAY past being able to be subtle and make any significant changes in how we treat our oceans.

I'm pretty sure disney shaved a couple of 'dark minutes', like dolphin and sharks killing. I'll check when original DVD came out.
I dont think the main purpose of the movies was sending a alarming message, but agreed with your point that they could have made a more direct message.

I'm still amazed by some great shots: GWS, dolphin swimming fast with the camera within, etc...

I was a little dissapointed by the film!

I was SOOOO excited to go see the film- I have loved all the movies coming out the last couple years regarding the beauty and plight of the worlds oceans- BBC Planet Earth has been perpetually in my dvd player for years! And I was lucky enough to get to see some of the work done on BBC Life at a shop i worked at in the bahamas!

I wasnt expecting anything too politcal, seeing as how it is a Disney film (i didnt realize it was an adapted french film). But was extremely bummed about the non-educational dialogue and lack of message about the real state of our oceans. I agree with Merxlin that every time they almost made a point they moved quickly away.

Also, While there were some AMAZING shots (mostly the ones with divers in the :) ), in general, i dont feel that the color or film quality matched up with some of the other underwater films i have seen! I loved the shot of the researcher swimming side by side with the Great White, and the shot with the humpback and the diver.

I would recommend seeing the film (cause all uw films are worth it), as long as you go in without any educational expectations... Definitely stay through the first part of the credits where there are some "behind the scenes" shots of divers (my fav part!)
