I built an El Cheapo. I believe the sensor has gone bad, and decided to get the Analox rather than replace the sensor. I like not having to connect up the sensor while on-board a boat. If anyone does build an El Cheapo, spring for the 10 turn potentiometer upgrade. As said earlier the basic pot is very sensitive and hard to dial in precisely. You will need better than average soldering skills, a low watt soldering pencil, a solder sucker or copper braid, small diameter heat shrink, and a dremel to cut the hobby box cleanly. I used a hot glue gun to coat each solder connection for corrosion and shock resistance.

DA Aquamaster posted a price of $185 for the deluxe kit. The Analox was $224 from Ebay.

as I am a tinkerer at heart I think I may be leaning this way. There are no pics on the oxycheq site. Could someone post a picture of a completed one?
Essentially, it is their Expedition-X analyzer, without the assembly.

It seems to me that the Analox might be worth the extra $40.

If I screw something up during the soldering, I can't imagine I would get warranty replacement.

I have been using an OxySpy since 2004, just about to change the sensor for the second time, last one cost me $130 just over 3 years ago, which isn't bad going considering the sensors are not supposed to last that long.

Set-up for using "straw" with Oxycheq restrictor on Analox domes:

Thanks TomZ. I stopped by the LDS, but they were out of stock on the flow restrictors. The guy asked if I called earlier, I guess this thread has inspired people to buy!

Not really. It's $110 without all the bells an whistles.

The $185 price is with the the Expedition sensor chamber and flow restrictor ($40), plus a sensor saver cap ($4.50) and a third party pluck-able foam dry box for it ($30).

In addition, if you add the flow restrictor to the Analox, you're adding another $20 to the cost of the Analox as well. So now the price for the e0bay Anlaox is $244 after you add the restrictor and it's closer to $280 if you by one at street price. In comparison, the El Cheapo II with Expedition sensor cap and flow restrictor costs only $150.

So it's a $94 difference, not $40.

The picture shows the El Cheapo II in UK 301 dry box with Expedition sensor, flow restrictor and sensor saver. With the sensor saver on, the O2 percent gets quite low over the course of a few days. It does wonders for sensor life, but you have to spend a minute or so waking up the sensor once you start using it again after it's been in deep storage awhile.
